Approach to Education
We consider the school as a production unit. Administrators, teachers, and students are all workers in this unit. The product is not computers or cars, but knowledge and ideas that go into the students' minds. Since the students are the ones who receive the product, they should be the most concerned that the product is good. This is why in SABIS® schools staff and students work together as a team. Everyone has a job to do and everyone is accountable. Administrators, students and staff "self-audit" in order to discover and correct errors. It is teamwork that allows us to reach heights that others find difficult to reach.
Catering for the complete Individual
Like all SABIS® schools around the world, The International School of Choueifat in Amman is a highly academic, non-selective, co-educational, English-medium, independent day school catering for students from the ages of 3 to 18 years. SABIS® schools provide top-quality education to children of different races, nationalities and backgrounds. We believe we can add more value to students to enable them to perform to the best of their ability, be admitted to the most competitive universities and be successful in their careers. The school develops students' academic competence, learning techniques, interpersonal skills, and personality in addition to instilling in students high ethical, moral, and civic values. The multicultural setting of the school helps students develop better understanding of world cultures.
The Syllabus
The syllabus is specifically designed by SABIS® to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in top universities around the world. It is neither British nor American, yet every year our graduates join top universities like Oxford, Cambridge, MIT, U-Penn, McGill, etc.
Class Teaching
From KG to the highest level all courses are clearly structured so students and teacher alike know precisely what should be learnt. Teachers teach a point at a time (the SABIS® Point System™ in which each lesson alternates frequently between oral work, individual work and group work in such a way that it is difficult for students to 'switch off'). The administration tests the children regularly using exams that teachers do not see beforehand. Everyone in the school is accountable. Accordingly students learn more in class, which means they have more time for relaxation and fun after school.
Students' Follow-up
Those who fall behind in their work are advised, motivated, detained, helped and coached until they catch up. As long as they manage their own time successfully their time is theirs, otherwise we take over.
The Learning Process
All courses are structured. A unique system of academic tracking (the SABIS® AMS™ which is a computerized foolproof method of detecting gaps in knowledge) allows the administration to follow closely the progress of each individual. Gaps are pinpointed as soon as they form, and the students' efforts are focused on eliminating them. Valuable time is saved, and a gap-free cohesive structure of knowledge is built in students' minds.
The Role of the SLO™
The student organization works hand in hand with the staff as one team. Members of the student organization are appointed by the administration for their competence rather than elected by the students for their popularity. This organization seeks to:
- raise academic standards
- promote high social and moral values
- develop personality
- develop communication and management skills and
- involve students into organizing sports and aesthetic activities.
